Abby Poeske Joins the Downtown Cuyahoga Falls Partnership as Executive Director.
Poeske will be working alongside the city, businesses, and the community to revitalize downtown and celebrate the heritage of Front Street and the Cuyahoga River. Previously, she was the Director of Career and Experiential Education at Walsh University. During her 3.5 year tenure at Walsh, Poeske also served as the Director of Service Learning and as the Community Outreach Liaison for the Food Design Institute, which utilizes the design thinking process and community engagement to address food insecurity.
Poeske’s professional experiences have also included supervising university students in Italy and South Africa, teaching English in Ukraine as a Fulbright grantee, and fundraising for the Boston Children’s Hospital Trust. Poeske is a graduate of the Better Akron Fellows leadership program, serves on a Women’s Endowment Fund committee at the Akron Community Foundation, coaches with Girls on the Run, and volunteers with various organizations across Northeast Ohio. Poeske earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and received her Master’s in Business Administration from Walsh University. She grew up in the Boston area and is now a homeowner in Cuyahoga Falls.
When Poeske was in college, she cycled across America, from Virginia to Oregon. At the end of each day, she and her group would bike into a new small town, explore, and learn about the community. During that experience, she learned to appreciate historic Main Streets and realized that the recipe for a vibrant, successful downtown is one which celebrates its unique heritage and history, incorporates art and culture, includes and communicates with all of its citizens, and fosters local pride. She is excited to apply her diverse skills and experiences to help do the same for downtown Cuyahoga Falls.
