FALLS LAUNDRY BUILDING (1910)

Home to a Chinese hand laundry in 1916 and the Falls Laundry by 1922, the 2-story blond brick building was built near the southwest corner of Front Street and Portage Trail about 1910.

The building has no particular academic style but displays some Art Nouveau style elements and is typical of the two-part commercial buildings of the times with upper-level offices or residences. The curved three-part upper floor window has a decorative keystone, sash horns, a bracketed stone sill and original Luxfer (prism) glass to reflect natural light deeper into the room.

A 1915 photograph shows an original scalloped mission style parapet which has since been removed. In the 1950/60/70s, tenants included L.S. Moser Jewelers and Smart Set Salon. Mikes Comics was located here in 1992. The building is located within both the National Register and the Cuyahoga Falls Local Downtown Historic Districts.

Metropolis Popcorn has delighted downtown visitors here since 2004 with over 50 flavors of Ohio-grown gourmet popcorn.
