TIFFT BUILDING (1908)

George C. Tifft and his son Charles built this 2-story blond brick Romanesque Revival style building for their Saloon and Pool Hall in 1908.

It is typical of the 2-part commercial downtown row type buildings popular in the early 20th century with convenient living quarters above. The masonry building replaced an earlier wood frame Acme store that burned in 1906. Other early tenants were Bales Cigars, Hill’s Saloon & Murphy Lunch Room.

The 1940s saw tenants including the Clover Club and a plumbing & heating supply store. Original storefronts were altered sometime after the 1940s with a stucco finish at the 1st floor. The Christian Science Reading Room succeeded Alexandra Industries in 1974 and remained until 1992.

Silver Eagle Antiques operated here for nearly 25 years from 1997 closing in 2021. Its current tenants are Justin Gamble Photography and Natural Wonders Shop

The building is located within both the National Register and the Cuyahoga Falls Local Downtown Historic Districts.
