ROETHIG BUILDING (1889)

The two-story with basement Romanesque Revival style masonry building was built c.1889 for owner William Roethig who with his brothers Edward and Alfred, ran a provisions store/meat market. An early 1900s tenant was the Post Office.

The red brick building with rustic stone accents was purchased by Casey Jones in the 1940s to re-establish the family’s 1901 Jones Confectionary. Original storefronts were altered in the 1970s. The building remained in the Jones family until 1980. Other tenants included Hageman Meats, a saloon, a blacksmith shop and in 1918 the Loyal Order of Moose Club was on the 2nd floor.

Later tenants included Falls Sheet Metal Works (rear), Edwards Shoes and Main’s Pharmacy. The building is located within both the National Register and the Cuyahoga Falls Local Downtown Historic Districts.

Currently, Restorative Massage & Wellness Center calls Roethig home with four apartments on the second floor.
