In 1836 brothers Samuel and Ezra Comstock came to Cuyahoga Falls to establish their business after rejecting Chicago as an inferior location. Sylvester Bean and Ezra Comstock purchased the property from Joseph Wood August 16, 1836.

In 1874, the new 2-story with basement red brick Romanesque Revival style building replaced an earlier wood structure destroyed by fire in 1866. The store sold a variety of dry goods, crockery, hardware and groceries. In 1889 the Knights of Pythias, Pavonia Lodge #301 met on the second floor. The Falls Department Store was located here in the 1940s and in the 50s & 60s-a Sporting Goods store. The 1970s saw the Great Falls Employment Agency.

Most recently the facility was occupied by Studio 2091, an art gallery and studios. The original iron, glass and stone arch storefront was altered in the 1970s with brick arches creating an open arcade. The masonry building is the oldest commercial building remaining in the Historic District and is located within both the National Register and the Cuyahoga Falls Local Downtown Historic Districts.
