C. HENRY PLUM HOUSE (pre 1839)

C. Henry Plum came from Connecticut to Monroe Falls in 1836 where he established a shoe business.

He relocated to Cuyahoga Falls and acquired this Italianate style house in 1844 from J.F. Vanneman who purchased it in 1843. The painted brick home has a basement with sandstone foundation and has characteristic arched windows and bracketed wide eaves. Plum operated his shoe and boot business on Front Street for 40 years and died in 1903 at the age of 90. Mr. Plum was an highly respected citizen and founder of the Republican Party in Ohio.

By 1916 the house had become apartments with a street-level storefront. In the 1930s it was home to the Falls Art Institute. By 1970 the building was used for offices. About 1977 a New Formalism style addition expanded the building to the south; a vestibule was added and the building was connected to the adjacent Bert H. Smith Residence at 220 Portage Trail.

The building is located within both the National Register and the Cuyahoga Falls Local Downtown Historic Districts. Since the early 1980s, Gibson Moran LLC have used the building for their law offices.
